The Hedonist wins George Mackay Trophy
In 2011 McLaren Vale took the honours again with Walter Clappis’s 2009 The Hedonist McLaren Vale Shiraz being named the winner.
Since the George Mackey Trophy was first awarded in 1991, McLaren Vale wines have won the accolade 5 times.
The George Mackey Trophy is award to the top wine selected from all the wines submitted for export approval in that year.
In 2011 The Hedonist triumphed over more than 14,000 wines, and takes the McLaren Vale tally to 6 or 30% of all the George Mackey trophies.
Clappis said upon receiving the trophy ‘We are happy to be rewarded for something we really love to do.”
