2011McLaren Vale Bushing King - Stephen Pannell

At the annual CARTeSIAN McLaren Vale Bushing Lunch on the 28th October 2011, Stephen Pannell was announced as the 2011 Bushing King for his 2010 SC Pannell Tempranillo Touriga. At the ceremony Stephen crowned his wife Fiona Lindquist the 2011 Bushing Queen.

The chairman of judges, Tom Carson noted..”.interestingly a third of the trophies went to non traditional varieties and blends.

This is surely a sign of not only the growing importance of these varieties today, but also a look into the future of McLaren Vale.  This is the cutting edge of the region and growers and producers who ignore the clear signs today will surely look back in the years to come and ponder what could have been.”

The judges for this year’s show were looking for vibrancy.  Wines that have energy, texture, richness and power, but retain overall balance.

The Wine Show co-chair, Chris Thomas…"The 2011 CARTeSIAN McLaren Vale Wine Show has been a fantastic success, wonderfully supported by the region with the largest number of exhibits since the 2006 show. While traditional varieties and blends continued to show their strengths, the emergence of alternative varieties to the forefront was a highlight. The Bushing winning wine S.C. Pannell 2010 Tempranillo Touriga shows how exciting these new varieties can be.  The strength of these new varieties highlights how the diversity of McLaren Vale's sub regions and geology makes it a truly special place to create a diverse and interesting range of wines."
