McLaren Vale Generational Farming - First year results point to a promising future
McLaren Vale has spent a number of years developing the Generational Farming program designed to encourage best practice in the management of vineyards.
In the first year 41 growers participated in the program. These members represented 56 sites in McLaren Vale.
At the September 2011 launch breakfast, the regional results were announced. The results indicated that the region scores well on Water Management and Pest and Disease Management.
Each of the member participants received their individual results.
Chalk Hill Viticulturalist, Jock Harvey, said “ the program was a first for a wine region in Australia. The aim is to maintain this area as a wine and food region for years to come”
McLaren Vale Generational Farming has achieved significant progress during the first year. The plans include innovative content amendments and participation guidelines. Additionally a third-party certification is being developed.
With a waiting list of members wishing to be included in the program, the sustainability of the McLaren Vale region is ensured.
