Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wines – ‘organically grown, traditionally vinified’

Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wine Co make single vineyard, organically grown wines from our family vineyards located in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Battle of Bosworth was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, and the wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field in England in 1485. Spring Seed Wine Co. is our parallel label established in 2008 and like Battle of Bosworth, is made using organically grown grapes from our vineyard.

Joch began converting the vineyards to organic viticulture in 1995 on vineyards established in the early 1970’s by his parents. All our vines are certified 100% ‘A’ grade organic by Australian Certified Organic. Organic farming is based on minimising the use of external inputs, and as such our certified organic grapes are grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, or GMOs.

We make wines with flavour, texture, purity and balance that best express the unique characteristics of their McLaren Vale foothills site. Battle of Bosworth makes a Chardonnay Viognier, a Sauvignon Blanc, a straight Chardonnay, a dry Cabernet Rosé (‘War of the Rosé’), a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Shiraz Viognier, a Shiraz and the Amarone-inspired ‘White Boar ’Shiraz. 2010 saw the release of our ‘Preservative Free’ Shiraz which is made in a fresh, youthful early-drinking style. Spring Seed makes a ‘Scarlet Runner’ Shiraz, a ‘Four O’clock’ Chardonnay, a ‘Forget-me-not’ Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and a Spring Seed "Sweet Pea' Moscato
