Angove Family Winemakers are one of South Australia’s oldest family-owned and operated wine companies, established in 1886 by Dr William Thomas Angove.

Less than one kilometre from the township of McLaren Vale, the family’s historic vineyard on Chalk Hill Road is exceptionally positioned and farmed organically. The Angove Cellar Door is nestled amongst the vines, and from the stunning terrace you are literally sitting in the middle of the vineyard with panoramic 180⁰ views of McLaren Vale.

The Wines
The Angove Cellar Door is the home of both our exclusive flagship wine, ‘The Medhyk’ McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz and the scarce Warboys Vineyard wines – single vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz, Shiraz Grenache and Grenache sourced from the family’s surrounding vineyard.

Angove Family Winemakers’ award winning range also includes single varietal McLaren Vale Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay as well as the traditional Rhone blend of Grenache Shiraz and Mourvedre. These wines are complemented by a Sauvignon Blanc from the nearby Adelaide Hills.

With large family holdings of old fortified material the Rare and Grand Tawnys are not to be missed, nor is Australia’s most iconic spirit, St Agnes XO, which has an average age of 30 years.

Cellar Door
Nestled in the family’s historic McLaren Vale vineyard on Chalk Hill Road, the cellar door is stunning and the hospitality warm and welcoming.

The western end of the building is traditional old Adelaide bluestone and is a replica of the original Brightlands cellar where founder Dr WT Angove made his first wines in 1886. The remainder of the building is contemporary floor to ceiling glass ensuring the beautiful Warboys Vineyard takes centre stage.

It is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to taste award winning wines and sample local produce. The cellar door also offers single origin, free trade coffee and light food in a relaxed lounge setting with open fire as well as a gourmet outdoor kitchen and wood oven designed for special events.

Open seven days a week for tasting and sales from 10am until 5pm.
