The winners of the prestigious Delicious Produce Awards 2010 were announced at a glamorous event at Circa The Prince in Melbourne Monday night.
The regional award for Australia was awarded to McLaren Vale... "with its mix of outstanding wineries and restaurants, great produce and a stunning coastline, South Australia's McLaren Vale was a natural choice as this years winner" said Necia Wilden
"Winning this Regional Award is a recognition of the passion the McLaren Vale producers, winemakers and community have for our produce and development as a tourist destination" said Elizabeth Tasker, Marketing and Business Development Manager, McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism.
The national judging panel comprised some of Australia's most respected chefs, including Maggie Beer, Matt Moran, Philip Johnson, Cheong Liew, Alla Wolf-Tasker and Neil Perry. They were joined by John Lethlean and Necia Wilden, co-editors of Food + Wine at The Australian, Jane Adams of the Australian Farmers' Markets Association (AFMA), project manager Libby Travers, and Delicious Magazines Trudi Jenkins, Valli Little and Matt Preston.
Chef David Swain from Fino restaurant in Willunga also received an award for Outstanding Use of Regional Produce by a Chef at the acclaimed Delicious 2010 Produce Awards. David's use of regional produce "gives his restaurant a vibrantly proud identity, dedicated to sympathetic, honest, presentation of the district's bounty" said John Lethlean. The winner was announced by Matt Preston and David accepted his award from Neil Perry.
